Tough Tuesday

I want to start by saying that I am so thankful for all of your prayers for my hubby. He is feeling a little better this week. He has a few other appointments coming up, so hopefully we will find out what is going on. That is the hardest part... not knowing what is wrong. But again.... Thank you for your prayers.
_________________________________________________
This week has started off to be a very stressful/busy week for me. Things are piling up on my to do list and my ironing board still looks like it did last week! My poor hubby had to ask for a shirt this morning... their wasn't one in his closet..... guess where it was!
I get up with my hubby every morning at 5:30 am to fix his lunch and see him off on his day. This morning I decided not to go back to bed. I have to much waiting on me and decided to get some things done. So here I am at my computer blogging away before I start to tackle my to do list for the day. For one eye to be functioning at this hour is simply amazing for me!
I have decided to give myself a challenge in several areas to try and make my life flow a little smoother. I always feel so much better when I just go ahead and "do" things... but as you all know.... I am a professional procrastinator!
The Lord has been speaking to me in this certain area of my life.
I pray that the Lord would show you ways to improve your progress during the day. We should make the most of each day ~ even if it is a day that is full of to do lists!

Update on hubby

A quick update on hubby..... The doctor seems to think it might be some form of reflux or hernia.... He gave him some meds to take so we will see how it goes over the weekend. Trying to figure symptoms out is no fun! Thanks to all who are praying and for your sweet comments! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

Prayer request

My hubby is on the way to the doctor. He still is not feeling well and has me very concerned. If you wouldn't mind saying a little prayer that his doctor would find the problem, I would appreciate it! I miss my sweet hubby! This has been going off and on for 3 months now and he is really feeling ruff. Thanks ahead of time for your prayers!!!

Thankful on Thursday

In some of my earlier blogs this week I mentioned that the Cherry Blossom Festival is this week in our area. Every day they have cherry ice cream, cherry coke and horse carriage rides.... all for free! Today was the only day we would be able to go and we woke up to RAIN. Needless to say the kids were bummed... esp. since i messed up a field trip earlier in the week.

I decided to go ahead into town to see if by some chance the rain would stop long enough to get our freebies!!! After riding by the spot, we saw no one anywhere. I called my brother and found out that the festivities had been moved to an indoor location. Yea! We had a blast. It is always more fun when the stuff is free! Right? We got our cherry ice cream, cherry coke and ate and drank while riding on the carriage, it was covered! Doesn't get much better than that!! I am so thankful that we were able to have fun even on a gloomy day!

Bummed

Okay, I am kicking my self right now. I woke up this morning trying to decide if I really wanted to take the kids on a field trip today...... bad home school momma..... After thinking it over I decided to go ahead and go~ that is what a good home school momma would do, right? WELL..... after double checking the time for the FT I found that is was not today but..... YESTERDAY!!!!!! I feel so bad..... in my defense... the school calendar starts off on Sunday, and I took it as a Monday.... Don't I need to pay better attention next time! The kiddos are going to be so disappointed.....they went to bed asking about the FT. Oh, well. time for so defensive action on my part. Maybe I will take them to the park for a picnic.... does that sound like a good way to make up for mommas goof????
Have a great Tuesday~

Making your Home Sing Monday: Going with the flow!

Making your home sing Mondays

My husband is filling in on 3rd shift again this week at work. There is suppose to be a rotation plan but..... he is having to pull 3rd again this week. Two weeks in a row! Working 3rd is not the best situation for our family. To say that it throws our routine into a tizzy is an understatement.

As a result of my husband leaving for work at 10:00 p.m., the kids stay up late and end up sleeping late the next morning. We have to be extra quiet during the school day so that Daddy can sleep. He is a little more grouchy ..... but I believe that I would be also!

Even though working 3rd is an adjustment for our family, in these times I am so thankful that my husband has a job. We are so blessed with all that we have been given.

I try to make things a little more easier during these 3rd shift times by making sure my husband has quiet time to get enough sleep, making sure he has good meals to eat and just by listening to him when he need to talk. I try to make it a little easier on the kid also, they want to see their daddy, so staying up late and sleeping in the next morning is not a big deal. We home school so we can make adjustments where they are needed.

Just by paying attention to little details our life on 3rd shift runs so much easier! That is how I am making MY HOME SING!

Please visit Moms the Word here for more information about Making your Home sing Monday!

Anniversary plans

My husband and I were planning on taking a weekend trip this past weekend for our anniversary but decided that we would save our money and stay home. He found out on Friday that he will not be getting a cost of living raise this year... surprise.. I had already prepared myself that he would not, so it was not a big surprise. We had already decided to stay home before we found out it.
Instead of going out, my sister-in-law kept our kids on Friday night and my husband and I grilled steaks and stayed home and watched a movie. It was very relaxing and I enjoyed the time alone with him. Several times I thought I heard the kids in the back of the house! It was so strange without them! It is very rare that they are away from us so it was kind of shocking for us all.
Thanks Tonka for taking care of my babies!!! Your the best!

Tag your it!

I have been tagged by my sweet friend Alicia at Confessions of a Snowflake
(http://confessionsofasnowflake.blogspot.com/) The tag is to tell 7 things about myself and tag 7 other blog friend to do the same. Thanks Alicia..... this is my first tag and I was so excited that you thought of me!
There are some rules with this tag:
1. I need to link to the person who tagged me.
2. I need to share 7 things that people may not know about me.
3. I need to tag 7 people to share 7 things and link to them.
4. I need to let them know they have been tagged.
Here we go.......
1. I love to listen to Christian Radio. Some of my favorites are Steven Curtis Chapman, Mark Harris, Building 429, Casting Crowns.... just to name a few!
2. I am a neat freak when it comes to my house. I cannot stand for things to be "out of place". I do not like clutter! I like for my kitchen floor to be swept, and carpets vacuumed, clean clothes put up. Thank heaven for Flylady! My biggest pet peeve is not having a empty dishwasher when I start supper. I cannot handle it if I cannot put my dirty dishes right into the dishwasher.... crazy, I know!
3. I love to bake and try new recipes. I love to try new things and for them to turn out! I love to collect new recipes and am more fond of sweets!
4. I love to watch TV in bed before I drift off! I will flip through the channels and usually stay up watching something later than I should!
5. I would love to have a laptop! Maybe one day!
6. I enjoy taking my daughter on Mother/Daughter shopping trips. We don't have to buy a thing.... just spending the time together. She is always so polite and well behaved! Wish she was like that all the time!!
7. I love to wear flip flops.... I would wear them all year round if I could! I always but several new pair each spring and wear the hound out of them!!!
Boy, that was harder than I thought!
Now, for my 7 tags......take the time to visit them !
Thanks to these ladies who take the time to read and comment on my blog! I enjoy reading your blogs so much and appreciate for blog friendship!!!! I completely understand if your are to busy to do the tag..... blogging is not our only love, right?!!!

17 wonderful years!

This Saturday, March 21st, my husband and I will celebrate our 17 th wedding anniversary. It has been a wonderful 17 years and I thank God for each one!

I do not want to bore you.... but... here is the story of Dean and Terri!
We met 24 years ago on a blind date. He was the first guy that I went on a actual date with! My best friend from high school was dating my husband's brother and introduced us. We hit it off right away and have been together ever since. My best friend ended up marring his brother and now we are sister-in-laws. Isn't that neat?
We met and dated for about a month before I left to start my sophomore year of college at Georgia Southern. He came to Southern during my Junior year. We had a blast - spending all our free time together-every waking minute. We were inseparable-still are! We both graduated from Georgia Southern and moved out into the working world.

I had always wanted to live and work in the Atlanta area. I landed a job in Fayetteville, Ga and had my own apartment and absolutely loved it. I stayed there for 4 years while he worked in Greenwood SC. I think the distance was good for us. We appreciated the time together more and looked forward to being married.

In October of 1991, he popped the question. I have to say that he is a very romantic man when he puts his mind to it! He planned for us to go on a weekend trip with my brother and new sister-in-law. I had no clue as to what was up. My brother and his wife were in on the whole thing! We went to Lake Junaluska, NC, nestled in the smokey mountains . It was absolutely breathtaking!!! The leaves were changing and the cool weather had begun.

On Saturday night we all went out to dinner at the Copper Kettle. I will never forget it! We tried to go to a really nice restaurant but the wait was to long so we opted for the good ole Copper Kettle. We laughed because it was actually a dive! They had a live band which amounted to a couple of old gentlemen living out their child hood dream of making it big! After dinner we decided to take a drive to the Lake at Lake Junaluska.

We took a walk on the bridge that goes over Lake Junaluska. It was cool and the moon was shinning on the water. It was so romantic! My brother and his wife stayed back a ways.... acting very funny. All of the sudden I heard music.... Nat King Cole's/and Natalie's "Unforgettable" . Dean asked me to dance.... and then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said "Yes". I was so excited! He planned the whole thing all by himself!!! Very impressive!!

We were married six months later on March 21, 1992. It was the most exciting day of my life. (other than the days when my babies were born!) Everything was perfect! I wore my brother's wife's dress and my Mother-in-law arranged our flowers. It was a beautiful day!

We left for our honeymoon in Jamaica the next day. It was very interesting ..... the morning of our flight out from Atlanta, my new husband became very quiet. I was a little worried!!!! The whole flight he was a little reserved......was he having second thoughts?????? Little did I know..... He did not like to fly.... what? We picked our honeymoon destination together! If I had known,,, we would have done something by CAR. But, that is my husband. Always putting others ahead of himself. I love him for that!

We had a wonderful honeymoon! We went snorkeling, sailing, and went on tours of the Island. It was beautiful. The only problem Dean had was the fact that he had to get back on a plane to get home!
After we got back from our honeymoon, We move to Augusta, Ga were we both worked. We bought our first home in North Augusta, SC and had both of our children there. We lived in NA for 16 years before moving to our current home.

Our babies are now 13 and 9... with 2 others in heaven.

The Lord has richly blessed us and given us more than we deserve. Dean is my best friend and the love of my life! I am so very blessed to call him my husband! He still gives my butterflies!

We are actually going away for the weekend and enjoy our anniversary... alone! We have not had a weekend away in very a long time. It will be nice to be able to rest and enjoy each other. Thanks to my sister-in-law Tonka for keeping my babies ! I love you !
Happy Anniversary honey! I love you with all my heart!

Several weeks ago I found myself lying in bed thinking over things that I might blog about. Several things came to mind and I thought that I would give one a try today.

As you see from the cute little button, I am going to call this challenge....... TALK ON TUESDAY. I have found that if I write challenges down I am more likely to follow through. I invite you to take the challenge with me. Each Tuesday I will post a challenge to myself. You are welcome to post the button in you blog, link back to me and join in on the fun. I do not plan on getting complicated with this..... I just plan to see where it takes us!!

The first challenge I have for myself is one that will take a lot of effort on my part. After my visit with my Aunt on Monday, it dawned on me that I have not kept in touch with her like I should have. Not only with my Aunt but with a lot of different people that were important to me and still are.

So here is the FIRST BIG CHALLENGE OF TALK ON TUESDAY.....

Today I plan on calling my college roommate whom I have not talked with in over 4 years! We were such great roommates.... we were great friends.... we were in each others weddings. It makes me sad to say that we have never seen each others children.... The last time I saw her was at her wedding. That was 17 years ago! How sad is that? I do know that when I get her on the phone it will be like I saw her yesterday. We will pick right up. Talking on the phone is not one of my favorite things to do. I know that may sound weird, being a woman and all but I cannot handle a phone conversation lasts more than 5 minutes... !!! I cannot sit still that long and find my self walking all over the house while on the phone. I never really paid much attention to it until I saw my 2 year old walking all over the house while "talking" on her play phone! Something else funny.... my husband talks on the phone more than I do!!!

So I ask myself-- why do I neglect the blessing that God has given me in the gift of friendship? He has given me friends to bring joy into my heart. I know... I am a sound like a terrible friend.
Can you think of someone you have neglected to keep in touch with? I encourage you to phone, email or even go see that person. Remember to have a friend, you need to be a friend. It is also that way with relatives! They are your first friends! I know that I get so caught up in my daily life that I do not slow down and think about the blessing of friendship. Take the time to be a friend!!!! I plan on making my phone call! How about you?
Let me know if you decide to join in..... I would love to read about your story! Enjoy your Tuesday!

Here is the code for the Talk on Tuesday button...... You will have to cut and paste it :

As you can tell, I am not computer/blog savvy!!!

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls for he has no one to help him up. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

For lunch today I made a delicious Chicken Salad and it was so easy!!!! I had some chicken leg quarters left over from this week that I had cooked in the crock pot. I chopped them up, added some mayo, purple grapes, celery and pecans. I served it on crescents and they were delish!!! Talk about an easy meal!

Update: My Aunt's visit has been changed until Monday. Thank you for all your prayers! We were able to get everything cleaned and it has surprisingly stayed that way!!!! It is amazing how good it feels to have a clean house!

Have a great Sunday!!!

God is so GOOD!!!!!!

I am so amazed at Gods timing!!!!! Sewing is something I have done for years. I made all my sons and daughters clothes when they were little and now make monogrammed gifts. I have had some things in a gift shop at a local hospital and make clothes and things for relatives and their friends. I got a call today for 4 more orders!!!! It could not come at a better time!! God is so Good!!!!! It so amazes me how he works everything out! All that I have to do is trust him and be still!

Food for Thought

I was doing a little blog reading while the kiddos where doing their school reading and came across a great blog piece about effective time management. You can read it here... http://likeawarmcupofcoffee.blogspot.com/2009/03/top-10-tips-for-effective-time.html
The blog is "Like a warm cup of coffee". It was very interesting to learn that there is a club out there for early risers like me! It is called the 5:16 girls. I am not alone!!!! The tips were great food for thought and did reinforce some habits that I have and gave me ideas for others.
Hope you find it interesting..... Happy Reading!

Our Weekend Roundup!

I am finally getting around to my update on our weekend. My hubby was off on Friday so we had a long weekend together. That does not happen often so we were very excited!
My husband and son are huge NASCAR fans. My son has watched it ever since he was old enough to hold his head up! Watching the race on Sunday afternoon is a expected event in our house. Earlier in the week my hubby called me ( all excited like a little kid) from work and said that the race was at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. He wanted me to see if I could get tickets...well being the frugal momma that I am, I said "WHAT??? They are to expensive!!" After literally hearing the wind get knocked out of his sail..... I told him I would check on the tickets.
I went on line and found that the tickets for the race were not that bad. We bought 3 tickets and my dd got in free! My hubby and son were so excited! It warmed my heart to see my hubby that excited! He has had a hard time a work and needed a break! I was so thankful that God worked everything out for us to be able to go! A little side note here...... if it were not for my "frugal" shopping.... we would not have had the extra money to go to the race.... I am now my kids hero!!!

Saturday morning the kids were up by 7:00 am.... that never happens in our house!!! We packed a few coolers and off we went. It only took 50 minutes to get to the track and the traffic was not bad at all. The kiddos visited the trailers of their favorite drivers and played a few games. It was nice to see them smile and have a good time.... they were so sweet to each other.
We made it inside the track just in time to see the trucks qualify. It was so loud..... thank goodness we didn't forget our earplugs! Later the cars came out to practice and it was neat to see how fast they go around the track and see the cars in person! The guys watched the cars and trucks go round and round while my dd and I looked through the binoculars at the guys working on the cars! We saw several of the drivers in the garage area... I think if we had sat anywhere else but in front of pit road.... my dd and I would have been bored out of our minds!!! The things you do for your men!!!

The day was beautiful and sunny.... a perfect family day! Here are a few pictures from the day..... We had a blast!

Driving Mrs. Connie

Today, the kiddos and I are spending the afternoon with my mother-in-law. We are driving her to a doctors appointment. ( If you have read my earlier post about "stay-at-home moms", you will realize why it is me taking her. I am the only one that does not "work"! ) :{
I have been blessed when it comes to Mother-in-laws! I remember when I first met her. She was and still is a sincere and love able person. She is Wonder Woman actually. She raised 6 kids by herself!!!!!! My hubby is a lot like her and for that I am thankful. My kids love her to death and call her house the "fun house" . I do believe that my son would move in with her in a heart beat!
So, for all my blogger friends... I will be gone most of the day... I hope your Thursday is a blessed and happy day!

New Recipe

Okay, the kiddos are reading so I want to share one of my new recipes that I tried last night!

Pumpkin Brownies

1 15oz can plain pumpkin

1 12oz can evaporated milk

3 eggs-slightly beaten

1 3/4 cup sugar

4 teas. pumpkin pie spice

1/2 teas. salt

1 Duncan Hines Butter cake mix

1 cup butter melted

1/2 chopped pecans

In a large bowl mix pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and salt. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle DRY cake mix over pumpkin mixture. Top with pecans and drizzle with melted butter. Bake at 350* for 50 minutes. Let brownies cool completely, cut into squares and serve with cool whip.

These were absolutely delicious!!!!! I do not remember where I got the recipe..... I found it in my recipe box....hand written. I can tell I wrote it fast because it is very sloppy!!!! I am assuming I got it off of a cooking show. Who knows... but it is yummy!

Happy Cooking!

FRAZZLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am afraid it is one of those days today.... My DD is enrolled in Georgia Virtual Academy....an online public school. I found out yesterday that she is a littl e behind in Science and History. WHAT?? How did that happen. So needless to say, I am in frazzle mode!
She is a wonderful student and I now she will catch up fast, it is just that I DO NOT like to be behind! We want to finish on time!!!!! Do you hear me????? I do not want to do school during the summer!!
I had several post planned, but they will have to wait until later... check back!!! I have a couple of great recipies to share!
So, enough ranting.... lets get to work!!!!

I love to read blogs and lots of blogs. I have so many favorites that I check in on daily. One of my favorites is Dancing Barefoot on Weathered Ground. Lynnette has a great idea going call "Getting to know you". I have participated in it and invite you to do the same!!

It looks like a lot of fun....check it out!

FREE FROZEN ENTREE FROM KASHI

Kashi is giving away coupons for a free frozen entree at the website. Go to http://kashi.com/ and click on "get a free frozen entree coupon" . It only take a couple of seconds to fill out the form and they will mail you the coupon. I have tried a few of their cereals and they are really good. It's worth a free taste anyway!

Walgreen's heads up!

I just got back from Walgreen's and had to post two great finds!!!
1. Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion is 25% off and you get $2.00 Register Rewards
I bought the 13 fl. oz (and found 1 left that had 30% more in the bottle)
on sale for $2.69 - that is like getting it for .69!
2. Colgate MaxFresh toothpaste - $3.29 and you get $3.29 Register Rewards .

My total bill came to $6.40 and I used a Walgreens gift card with 4.79 on it- OOP was $1.61

Then I turned around and used my $5.29 Register Rewards on my second transaction! I won't bore you with the details but my OOP on the second traction was $1.75!

Just sharing the love!!!!!!

Where does this mess come from?

Laundry, dishes, general housework...... they are calling me all day long, every day! Sometimes I wonder... what am I doing? I use to feel so overwhelmed! God has blessed me with our home and everything in it! I want to please him, even in taking care of my home!

Years ago I came across a website called Flylady.net I found it were interesting and very overwhelming! But I have to say that Flylady has been a lifesaver for me. I get daily emails telling me what "zone" it is for that week and diff. ways to clean up that area. She tells you to spend about 15 minutes doing each task each day. The main goal is that by spending a week in a certain area and rotating that over a couple of weeks, you will have a clean "total" room.

For example, the zone for this week is zone 1- the front porch and entrance & dining room. You will be given diff. tasks to do in those areas. Today is sweeping the front porch, looking for cobwebs and wiping down your front door.

Once I got use to getting the email and weeding through and finding which ones I wanted to read and which ones I just trashed, it really began to make sense and be effective for me.

My suggestion is to go to Flylady.net and look on the far left column for Baby Beginner Steps. Read through that section first and go from there. You can pick and choose what you want to do. You don't have to do everything at once.... don't get overwhelmed! It will begin to make sense to you over time.

If you struggle with getting everything done, or feel like you are spinning your wheels, go check Flylady out. You might find you like it as much as I do!

Snow much fun!!!

I don't want to bore you on the subject of snow... but it is a big deal at our house. We haven't seen snow in about 6 years! All the schools are closed but dear ole hubby is on his way to work :( He didn't sleep much last night so he is going to have a long day. A lot of the snow melted during the night ....hopefully there will be some left for the kiddos to see when they get up. I am so thankful that they were able to see snow this year! They both have been praying for it to snow. Thankfully they had enough to play in and it wasn't bad enough to make our electricity go out!! Here are a few more pictures of our fun day yesterday!
I just spoke with my hubby and he made it to work! I was worried about the roads but he said they were not bad!!!

Update on the SNOW!

Well, the snow has decided to stick!!!!!! We started having snowflakes the size of half dollars and it is covering the ground..... needless to say my kiddos are ecstatic and hubby is hoping he can stay home from work tomorrow!!!!! Here are a few pictures of the excitement!! I am going to make some hot chocolate!!!!

It's SNOWING!!!!!!!

It has been snowing at out house for about 2 hours. So far it is not sticking but my kiddos are so excited. We do not see snow that often in our part of GA. They are praying that it will stick so Daddy doesn't have to go to work and they can have a day off from school. We will see!
